week 7 report

During this week, what I had been focusing on is the general CAD design. There are few obstacles need to be solved. First, dimension is one important part of this whole project, set a detailed dimension can be very helpful in future design. Currently, I have trouble on thickness of the main wheel and motor. other dimension need to confirm with the team is the connection object, which locate between shaft and support plate (for motor and switch wheel). Second, I need to get the new edition Solidworks, so that I can use both school's computer and make edit on my home laptop.

week 5&6 spring 2018

During these two weeks , I have redone this bill of material. Since the beginning of this semester, I start to realize that money is one thing that stops our project to go further. My main task is to find expensive components on the BOM that can be replaced by some cheaper parts. One thing I found that can be replaced is the wheel. Originally, the wheels will cost around $300. But, one Mcmaster carr I found a wheel that will only cost $12. Although, this wheel doesn't suit every criteria with our design. But compare to the huge saving. I have decide to let my team know that this is an option that can help us save a lot of time in the future.

Week 3 Spring 2018

This week, we have discussed to reduce our cost of the material, labor cost, and etc. The final decision is that to switch from steel to plywood. However, there are things that we need to focus on choosing the correct plywood. If the plywood we use has avoids, there will be problems when we do laser cutting. Therefore, finding the supplier and get the correct plywood is essential to this semester.
