week 5 report

this week, we will start to CAD the bogie model based on our previous drawing and data from futran. There are few things that we need to discuss in our group meeting. First is dimension for the major parts, like the wheel, the overall width, height, etc. We also need to corporate with track team for these dimensions. second is the basic sketch. Even though we have our own sketch, but since we are making improvement on Futran's design, we still need to at least have a futran's bogie design sketch to make sure they are what we thought.
In general, we'll be following these diagram on our bogie design.

This week, we have discussed to reduce our cost of the material, labor cost, and etc. The final decision is that to switch from steel to plywood. However, there are things that we need to focus on choosing the correct plywood. If the plywood we use has avoids, there will be problems when we do laser cutting. Therefore, finding the supplier and get the correct plywood is essential to this semester.

week 5&6 spring 2018

During these two weeks , I have redone this bill of material. Since the beginning of this semester, I start to realize that money is one thing that stops our project to go further. My main task is to find expensive components on the BOM that can be replaced by some cheaper parts. One thing I found that can be replaced is the wheel. Originally, the wheels will cost around $300. But, one Mcmaster carr I found a wheel that will only cost $12. Although, this wheel doesn't suit every criteria with our design. But compare to the huge saving. I have decide to let my team know that this is an option that can help us save a lot of time in the future.
